Decided on using blogger, due to the fact that word press is crazy complicated and allows minimal customization unless you pay. Also some blogger themes have nice features right out of the box, including the ability search through posts. Blogger also allows the user to edit the html for the theme, if word press allows this I haven't been able to figure out how.
